How big is Serpstat database?
Our database consists of a list of keywords, domains, search suggestions, and ads. The database is formed based on the TOP 100 Google search results and is constantly growing and improving. We collect new keywords every day to provide you with the most up-to-date data.
The Serpstat database consists of: - 230 Google regions; - 1.1 trillion backlinks and 470 million referring domains; - 7.12 billion keywords and 2.01 billion keywords in SERP; - 1.49 billion domains; - 4.76 million ads.
Since the database is huge, a certain percentage of keywords is updated daily. Data is updated depending on the volume of keywords: high-volume keywords are updated faster than low-volume ones. During the update process, Seach Volume, Keyword Difficulty, Competition, Cost, and the first 100 positions in the search results for each keyword are updated.
The full cycle of the database update takes approximately three months. To get the freshest data, use our Rank Tracker feature. The full cycle of our backlink index update takes 70 days.

How often is the data in the Site analysis Overview updated?
Visibility score, traffic, keyword metrics, and trends are updated every 2-3 weeks. Market research section is updated once a month. The Rank tracker and Site audit sections are updated each time the data for the site in these tools is refreshed. Other metrics and sections are updated every few days.
What Google and Bing volume does Serpstat show?
Volume is the number of times users look for a query in a search engine for a certain period.
Serpstat displays the monthly average keyword search volume over the past year, according to Google and Bing.
There are different types of volume: high-volume (more than 1000 queries/month), medium-volume(up to 1000 queries/month), and low-volume (100 queries/month). Volume can be of an exact and broad match. High-volume keywords are updated once a month on average, and a low-volume keywords update can take up to 3 months.
Broad match Broad match is used by default for all keywords. In this case, ads are shown if the query contains a word with typos, a synonym, a similar phrase, etc. For example, if you specified the keyword "women's shoes," then your ad will also be displayed for queries "buy women's shoes" and "women's boots."
Exact match Ads are shown for queries that match the keyword entirely or are close variants. Similar options include keywords that coincide with a keyword in meaning, even if they are worded differently. An exact match is indicated with square brackets, for example [red shoes].
For Google, we display Volume only in broad match.
Can I set an automatic mailing for my projects?
Yes. Serpstat can set up an automatic distribution of some reports. To do this, go to the Project List and clickthe icon in the upper right corner of the project.
The setup menu appears. A newsletter is available for reports: Site audit, Backlink analysis, SEO, Rank tracker.
Enter the required addresses in the input field → set the frequency of checking and sending reports → to click on the "Enable mailing" button → click "Save."
Still have questions? Contact the tech support chat.
Can I add a Label to reports?
Sure! Serpstat allows adding a company logo to a report. Moreover, the White Label concept is available to customers using Plan Enterprise. White Label allows you to disable the service logo on graphs and web reports and display your logo in reports.
Why does Organic traffic not match Google analytics data?
Google analytics provides more accurate data as it comes directly from Google. In Serpstat, traffic is calculated using click-through-rate (CTR) in its system, so the data may differ. The Complete Guide To Google Analytics
Why doesn’t PPC Keywords show all phrases of a domain?
This is due to the principle of collecting and updating data. We have an extensive database of keywords. Every day we receive data from the search engine results for these phrases and save for each phrase the ads that were on the search page. For each phrase, the update takes place, on average, once a month. In this way, we form data about advertising campaigns on sites.
As you know, PPC advertising changes very quickly. And there are many additional factors such as: - geo-targeting (if there is a narrow targeting to a specific region of the country, we may not see this ad); - time of displaying (e.g., an ad is spinning from 17.00 to 00.00, and we have an issue for this request at 16.00 - then we will not catch this ad); - checking the search results for a keyword in this campaign, you have already reached the daily limit, and this ad has not been displayed; - If an ad shows for a low-frequency phrase that is not in our database, there will be no data.
Only their creator can know the exact and complete data on advertising campaigns. There are no services that provides 100% reliable analysis of contextual advertising. You can find out the average cost per click, an average number of requests per month, part of keywords, and other average or incomplete results.
What is CPC? Why is this indicator in SEO analysis?
CPC — estimated indicator in PPC. This indicator is included in the report for your convenience. Thus, you will be able to see the keywords, which can be both paid and free.
What do New, Lost, Improved, Declined keywords mean in the SEO keyword section?
New — phrases that have either recently been added, or they were not in the top before, but are now in; Lost — those by which the site used to be ranked in the top, but now — no; Improved — those, which have risen in positions from the previous monitoring; Declined — those that fell in positions from the last monitoring.
Some queries don't return any results. Why are the data missing?
1. Missing domain/URL data in the Domain Analysis/URL Analysis module. Possible reasons: • The domain/URL does not rank in the top 100 Google or top 50 Bing search results. Serpstat collects data only within this range. • Keywords for which a website is ranking in the top 100 are not present in Serpstat database. Why? A special algorithm automatically adds keywords to the database, and the reason for their absence may be low keyword volume.
How to get more data for a domain/URL? Write to our support chat, and we will help you add keywords on your topic to the Serpstat database. You can also do it yourself with the Batch Keyword Analysis tool.
2. There is no data for a keyword in the Keyword Research module. We don't have the keyword in our database because the keyword may have a low volume. You can search for a keyword with a more general meaning and check out a list of related keywords. For example, instead of searching for "buy iphone 10 green near me", you can search for "buy iphone" and filter results by the words "green" AND / OR "near me."
If a keyword has a high volume but is absent in our database, write to our support chat. We will check the reason for its absence and help you add it to our database. You can also add new keywords yourself using the Batch Keyword Analysis tool.
What does the "Domain with subdomains" parameter in the serach bar mean?
When you select Domain with subdomains, all subdomains of the analyzed domain and the number of their keywords will be taken into account. If you select URL Prefix, the analysis will be carried out according to the selected domain prefix, for example serpstat.com/blog.
What visibility is considered optimal and good?
There is no ideal indicator of visibility. This indicator needs to be compared with the visibility of competitors and its performance over the past months, the only way to track progress.
"0" visibility means that the site does not have pages that would be ranked in the top-20 Google.
Still have questions? Contact the tech support chat.
How are competitors chosen in search results?
Using the modules "Keyword Research" and "Domain Analysis". It takes into account the intersection of semantics and domain metrics. Domains are considered relevant competitors if common keywords make up a significant part of their semantics, and, at the same time, from the semantics of the analyzed domain. I'll leave youan article for better understanding :)
Still have questions? Contact the tech support chat.
Facebook is on the list of competitors, is it really a competitor?
No, as well as large stores and ad aggregators, in case you have a small store. He just has a great completeness of the site and the number of key phrases. On the diagonal, he will not be our close competitor.
Why don't I see any data on paid keywords and ads in Serpstat for a domain?
If, according to Serpstat, a website has no active advertising campaigns, but you know that this is not true, the reason may be:
- geo-targeting (the ad campaign has a narrow targeting to a specific region of the country, and you are looking at the whole country); - fixed display time (the ad has a certain display time, and it did not coincide with the time the data was updated for the phrase); - at the time of updating the data for a keyword, your campaign has already expired its daily requests; - the absence of keywords in the Serpstat database for which the website's advertising campaign has been launched. This can happen due to the low keyword volume.
How can I find out which of the competitors in the list is the most relevant?
Relevance score will help you find such competitors. It is based on the intersection of the general semantics of the domains, the more common keys, the more relevant the competitor is.
The competitors graph shows the direct competitors of the analyzed domain. Serpstat selects competitors based on the intersection of semantics and a similar indicator of Visibility. The analyzed domain is located in the upper right corner. The position of competitors depends on the completeness and accuracy of the coincidence of semantics with the analyzed domain. The closer the competitor at the intersection of the axes, the more direct the competitor of the analyzed site it is.
What do the Precision and Recall scales in the competitors graph mean?
Precision — the ratio of the number of common phrases to the number of all phrases of a competitor — how exactly does the semantics of the analyzed site and the competitor's site match. Recall — the ratio of the number of common phrases to the number of all phrases of the analyzed domain — how fully the competitor covers the semantics of the analyzed site.
Still have questions? Contact the tech support chat.
How are competitors chosen in contextual advertising?
In Paid keywords selected competitors are based on common keywords for which the site advertises.
How is the Keyword selection report different from the Related keywords report?
The difference is that Keyword selection shows a set of phrases using a specific key query, and the Related keywords report shows a set of phrases that are semantically related. For example, a list of incorrect spellings for a key request.
Still have questions? Contact the tech support chat.
What is Search suggestions and how is this report generated?
Search suggestions are queries offered to users underthe search bar, which complement and facilitate the wording of an original query. A report is based on the frequency of requests.
Can I filter Search suggestions?
You can filter by type of question words "how," "what," "which," "where," etc. You can also see a list of words that are most often used with our keyword. For example: for "gifts", you can see the words “make,” “buy,” etc.
How can a SEO specialist or marketer use the Search Suggestions module?
For example, it can be used to create articles. The questions themselves can be used as headings, and then they will be highly ranked in a search engine. More information about PPC you can find in our article: How Else is "Search Suggestions" Tool in Serpstat Useful?
Why do URLs need to be analyzed separately from the domain? In which cases?
If we need to collect URL's data: collect URL's semantics or compare a competitor’s similar page.
Why is the Missing keywords module useful? How is it formed?
Serp (Search engine results page) is a page generated by a search engine as an answer to a question. We have the SERP Analysis module, which is located in Keyword Research, where you can find such data.
What affects the Keyword difficulty metric?
Keyword difficulty is the assessment of the level of competition for a keyword to advance in organic search in the top-10. The indicator shows in a percentage, the smaller the indicator — the easier the promotion of the phrase.
How to determine the trend of a keyword popularity?
The trend of a keyword can be determined by the chart “Keywords trend". Depending on the trends, a popularity of keywords is divided into seasonal, growing, and decreasing.
For better understanding, we suggest you read this article.
How to use the Tree view report?
The Tree view report lists all website pages that rank in the top 100 Google search results and keywords they rank for with metrics to analyze the keywords.
Find pages that require keyword optimization by filtering the report by positions (e.g., 11–20).
Analyze the website structure by seeing all keywords pages rank for.
Analyze competitors' website to see pages that rank on the first search engine results page and which keywords they use to be in the top 10. More information you can find in the tutorial.
Since when does Serpstat show site visibility?
Since the first analysis of a site.
What are “updates” on the chart and why is visibility growing or falling fast?
These are Serpstat updates in the list of the million most popular phrases in the Serpstat database. When a blue vertical bar appears on the chart, it means that there was an update. Dramatic changes in the graphics can occur for small websites, which do not include a large number of phrases in the top-100 Google.

How long are reports stored in the Latest reports section?
Reports in the "Latest reports" section are stored for 60 days.
What report formats are available?
Reports can be exported in six different formats: CSV (Open Office / Microsoft Excel), XLS, XLSX, Google Docs, PDF, TXT.
However, not all formats are available for every report. For example, the Overview report for the tools Website analysis and Keyword research is only in PDF format.
The service shows the website has no paid search. But I know for sure it does. Can you help me sort it out?
Keywords the website shows its ads for are probably not present in our database. The reason for this can be a low frequency for a keyword.
If the website is not ranking in Google top-100, the analytics data won’t be available either.
How can I compare a list of domains at once?
To compare a list of domains by different parameters, use Batch analysis. The tool shows a comparative table for analyzing domains by main metrics from the Website analysis and Backlink analysis modules, such as: visibility, keywords dynamics, ads, internal and external backlinks/domains, site’s authority.
Why did my traffic and keyword phrases increase, but my visibility fell?
The website's visibility indicator can change because the frequency of keywords is also continually changing. Sharp changes can occur on small websites and with a small number of phrases in the top results.
Visibility can be low, which means a website does not have pages that rank in the top-20 of Google. New keywords and traffic growth don't guarantee Visibility's growth until the site starts ranking in the top-20 for higher-frequency keywords.
The semantic core is all the keywords of a domain; they are the basis for creating a common structure and site pages. The core is words by which the user finds a specific page of the site, depending on the search query. Proper compilation of the semantic core will help the site get into the top search engine results.
There are different methods for collecting semantic core: -Use the semantic core of a competitor; -Collect keyword intersections of multiple competitors; -Use keywords that competitors use in advertising; -Receive similar keywords; -Collect search suggestions.
Here are a few options for collecting semantics using Serpstat: 1. Go to the Website analysis / SEO analysis / Domain vs Domain section. In this report, you can compare up to 3 domains simultaneously, analyze the semantics, and, in particular, the unique keywords of competitors. This will allow you to look at what key phrases your competitors are moving forward and decide whether it is necessary to expand your semantic core with these words. The same report is in the PPC (contextual advertising) section, if you are interested in this particular niche. 2. Using the section Keyword analysis / Content marketing / Search questions, you can find the most popular queries based on the keyword you are analyzing. And also, understand what topics can be covered on the site, responding to user requests on the Internet, thereby increasing traffic to your site. 3. In the Website analysis section there is an excellent report Keywords in the SEO analysis section. You can look at what key phrases the domain is ranked, filter, and export the report with the semantics of your competitor. 4. If you use Keywords selection and Related Keywords reports in the Keyword research section, you can collect all synonyms and phrases that are close in meaning to the search word, which will help expand your domain's semantic core.
First of all, please, make sure that you have chosen the correct SE (search engine), as well as correctly entered your request. For example, when analyzing a domain, the query should look like this: domain.com, not https://domain.com. The last one is for URL.
Still have questions? Contact the tech support chat.
What is the difference between the number of keywords in the database and the number of keywords in the SERP?
The number means how many keywords we have in the database. And the number of words in the search engine results is how many there are in the search engine results. Our database may not have all the keys in the output, since besides the usual phrases, there are also "garbage" queries.
Available parameters: Volume, Cost, Keywords Difficulty (KD), Competition in PPC, and the number of results.
TeamandAgency plans: add up to 100 000 keywords in one project and create up to 20 projects. Registered users: one project and ten keywords are available.
2. Another way for batch analysis is Serpstat API.
How to add my own keywords to Serpstat database?
The Keyword batch analysis will help you. For example, if the data is in the value "N/A," there is no information for the analyzed word in the database. In this video, you will find a small manual on adding keywords to the appropriate database.
What are Visibility, Traffic and Keywords trends?
Visibility, Traffic and Keywords trends show how these metrics change for a domain over time. They are updated every 2-3 weeks.
Trends include vertical lines and small red triangles that inform of Google or Serpstat updates. When a dynamic chart suddenly drops or spikes, check for recent search engine algorithm updates on the chart and analyze if they could affect the drop/spike.
Abrupt changes occur more often for websites that don't rank for many keywords. The chart's gradual increase means the SEO brings positive results.

What are credits? How do I use them?
Credits are units of measurement for getting data. They are used for nearly all tools.
Credits for Search Analysis (Domain Analysis, URL Analysis, Backlink Analysis, and Keyword research) are shared and renewed daily. Search analysis credits are spent each time you make a new request, go to a different report, sort or filter a report.
Credits for other tools are updated monthly and may be spent differently.
Learn how many credits each tool spends in the article.
How do I check my subscription credits?
To check your subscription credits, go to "My account".
The section contains information about your profile, pricing plan, the number of credits left, and the date of credits renewal.
Important note: 900/1 000 credits means you still have 900 credits left that you can spend :)
Can I pause my subscription?
Yes, you can temporarily pause the subscription when you're taking time off work. Please reach out to us via online chat or at support@serpstat, and we'll connect you with your manager to discuss this question.
If I stop renewing my pricing plan, will my projects be kept?
Depending on the pricing plan, Serpstat will store your data from 2 to 100 months after the subscription expiration. If you do not renew your subscription for more than the period according to your plan, all projects (except for the first one created) and their historical data will be deleted permanently. If you want to keep access to your projects' data, renew your pricing plan.
Why does Serpstat delete data? We want to provide the highest quality service for our customers. To do this, our team has to optimize the service's stability and increase the speed of loading for active projects. Your projects may fall under the criteria for automatic deletion precisely because of the need for such optimizations. If the data in your projects is important to you, we recommend keeping it active or exporting it before the subscription termination.

Keyword difficulty is measured in percentage, where the 0 is the lowest competition on a keyword and 100 - the highest.
The metric will help you prioritize your list and figure out what keywords are most likely to bring benefits in a short amount of time.
What is the difference between Keyword difficulty and Competition?
Keyword difficulty estimates how hard it would be to get a listing in top 10 organic search results for a keyword, while Competition shows how many advertisers are bidding to show their ads in the search results for a given keyword.
This gives a clue as to which promoting method is likely to produce better results in a short-term perspective: SEO or PPC.

Keyword clustering
What is Serpstat Keyword clustering?
This tool categorizes keywords into groups (clusters). Within each group there should be "similar" keywords, and keywords of different groups should be as different as possible.
You can find out how to increase the text relevance of site pages in the article on our blog.
What do the indicators in clusters mean?
Considering the formed cluster, you can see the following indicators:
1. Volume — how often users search a keyword per month. 2. Every keyword from a cluster has its connection strength. It provides a hint of how close that keyword is to the cluster's topic on a scale from 0 to 100%. 3. Homogeneity shows the semantic consistency of a cluster of a scale from 0 to 100%. 4. If you specified a domain while creating a project, we'll look at your website's pages and display the page which is the closest to the cluster's topic in the URL field. If you didn't input a domain, you can add a domain manually when launching text analysis.
5. To see the list of page-competitors in top-30 search resultsfor keywords from a cluster you can click to the "Show metatop" button. The more relevant pages to the cluster’s topic will be ranked higher in the meta-top.
What goals can be achieved with Serpstat Keyword clustering?
1. Development of the site structure. Clustering helps to compose the structure of the site by breaking keywords from the semantic core into semantic groups.
2. Determination of target keywords to promote specific pages of the site. You will determine the keywords by which you can promote the corresponding pages of your site.
3. Drawing up a technical assignment for a copywriter. Clustering will automatically group keywords for articles into clusters that can be used for a technical assignment to a copywriter.
4. Separation of requests for commercial and informational types. With the help of clustering, you will determine which keywords should be used on certain pages of the site. For example, commercial queries are on the homepage or category pages, and informational queries are for articles.
5. Semantic core analysis. If there are too many information queries in the collected semantics for an online store, and there are few clusters with commercial queries, you need to expand the semantic core.
6. Search for unique keywords that are not included in any cluster. Clustering allows you to define unique keywords that do not fall into any cluster.
You can get even more information about the tool in our article:)
Benefits of Serpstat Keyword clustering
The tool Keyword clustering will save you time. Unlike manual clustering, which can take 2-3 days to complete a semantic core of 1,000 keywords, automatic clustering from Serpstat takes several tens of minutes.
Which settings should be chosen in the Clustering tool? Strength/Cluster type?
There are 2 settings in the tool: - cluster type; - strength.
1. When choosing "Strong" cluster type, all keywords in one cluster will have the same URL in the top. When choosing "Weak" cluster type, to combine all keywords into one cluster, it is sufficient to have a set of common URLs for at least one pair of keywords. The number of common URLs for keywords in one strong or weak cluster types determines the parameters of the strength.
2. With "Weak" strength — 3 common URLs in the top, "Medium" — 8, "Strong" — 12.
The choice of the clustering mode depends on the keywords that you want to cluster. If the keywords are from the same topic, and they are already related in meaning, then it is better to choose "hard" exact clustering with "Strong"+"Strong" parameters. Thus, only synonymous keywords will be combined into clusters.
If keywords are from different topics, then it is better to choose a softer clustering with "Weak"+"Weak" parameters. For example, let's say you want to cluster the collected semantics for a multi-item online store or online shop. In this case, there will not be many clusters, but they will be formed according to separate groups of goods or topics of the online magazine. Selecting "Strong"+"Weak" parameters will give you more clusters than "Weak"+"Weak". In this case, according to the obtained clusters of keywords, it will be possible to promote individual pages or write articles.

What keywords fall into "Unsorted keywords"?
These are keywords that have not been allocated to any cluster. Perhaps they ended up in the list of keywords by accident and must be removed from the semantic core. Otherwise, these keywords can be used to promote individual pages, tags, filters, or drag and drop to one of the clusters. If you decide to leave these keywords, then you can manually transfer them to the desired cluster.
What plans include the Clustering tool?
The tool is available to all users starting from the Individual plan. You can check how many monthly credits are given for the tool on the Plans&Pricingpage in the "Tools" block.
What is the minimum and maximum number of keywords words can be added to the tool?
To split keywords into clusters, you need to add at least 3, maximum 50 000 keywords to the project (that depends on your pricing plan and available credits for the "Tools").
If the project settings are changed, will additional credits be charged?
Credits will not be charged when updating a project if: - no new keywords were added to the project; - only the cluster type and strength were changed.
After adding new keywords to the project or changing the country, region, and city, 5 credits for each keyword are charged when the project is updated.
What operations can you do with keywords in clusters?
Each cluster has adrop-down menu:
1. Add keywords— opens a window where you can add some keywords to the existing cluster. 2. Delete keywords— deletes checked keywords from the cluster. 3. Move to unsorted— moves selected keywords to the "Unsorted keywords" directory. 4. Move keywords to...— moves keywords tothe other cluster. 5. Delete cluster— deletes the cluster from your project.
Text analysis
What is Serpstat Text analysis?
The tool Text analysis provides recommendations for creating or modifying the semantic core of the page. Text analysis is carried out on the basis of the website page (if a URL is specified), a list of keywords from the cluster for which it is optimized and the top-15 results for the analyzed phrases.
The last section in the Serpstat report will show errors in the analyzed page elements. If a specific error is present on the landing page, the checkmark next to it will be gray, if there is no error, it will be green.
Also, errors are divided into three priorities: - red — the most serious errors that affect the ranking of the site, they must be eliminated first; - yellow — errors of medium severity, they practically do not affect the ranking, but they must be eliminated; - blue — the least serious errors, they can be dealt with last.
What plans include the Text analysis tool?
The tool is available to all users starting from the Individual plan. You can check how many monthly credits are given for the tool on thePlans&Pricing page.
Benefits of Text analysis
The tool Text analysis is distinguished by resistance to semantic noise: if there are irrelevant topics among the specified search queries, their presence will not affect the results of Text analysis. Serpstat groups the search results by the queries analyzed (videos, white papers, catalogs, commercial product cards, etc.) and determines which group the target URL is closest to. Based on the analysis of other pages of the group, the service makes recommendations for improving the textual component of the analyzed page. By grouping pages from the top, Serpstat provides the most accurate recommendations. Filtering can occur even at such a level as accounting / disregarding pages containing videos (necessary if the main content of our page is a video, to which we select the title, description, page title, etc.).
The Serpstat TA tool will analyze the content of your page, discard irrelevant informational competitors and make recommendations based on the analysis of commercial results.
Should I add recommended words to meta tags (Title, H1, Body) in the suggested form?
We display words’ lemmas, but you can use these words in any form that fits your content generally or individual sentences. Don’t sacrifice the content quality to include a portion of suggested words in the exact form.
How are credits in Keyword clustering and Text analysis tools accrued and charged?
For the Clustering or Text Analysis tools 1 keyword = 5 credits. For example, 1000 credits allows you to cluster 200 keywords, i.e. 200 keywords * 5 credits = 1000 credits. After Clustering for the same keywords, you can launch Text Analysis, which will require another 1000 credits.
Please note that credits for Clustering, Text analysis, Domains batch analysis and Keywords batch analysis are general per month.
How Serpstat Text analysis works?
Serpstat Text analysis divides the text space of pages into three main areas: Title, H1, Body. Then text analysis is carried out and recommendations are provided on the use of keywords. The general assessment of the page relevance to keywords from the cluster is carried out separately. The analysis process can be simplified as follows:
1. Serpstat compiles a list of keywords that appear in Title, H1, Body of the top 15 results for analyzed keywords. 2. The tool groups pages similar in topic (commercial with commercial, articles with articles and information materials, videos with videos, etc.) 3. Selects recommendations for the landing page and analyzes its relevance in relation to keywords. 4. When creating the Text analysis tool, we abandoned the recommendations on the number of occurrences of words and phrases in the page content, preferring the relative indicators of the importance of the phrase as a percentage.
Still have questions? Contact the tech support chat.
How to conduct Text analysis?
Text analytics can be conducted on any of the clusters.
Цithout URL (when you need general recommendations prior to setting up a page).
1. The TA report based on URL contains: - page’s relevance scores to keywords from a cluster; - words that should be placed into Title, H1 and Body; - keywords' indicators: LSI Rank, Chance; Status; - suggestions on whether you need to increase/decrease the number of words in the Body section (recommendations are provided based on the average number of words on competitor pages).
2. Text analysis without URL will provide suggested keywords for Title, H1 and Body along with their LSI Rank, Chance and percentage ratio of a recommended word’s lemma to the total number of unique keywords on corresponding sections of pages from the metatop.
What do the indicators mean in the Text analysis report?
1. Proximity level — a score on a scale from 0 to 100% that displays how close a keyword is in terms of semantic similarity to the cluster topic. 2. Relevance — a relative score that shows how well your page is optimized for the keyword compared with top pages from the SERP. Hover over the color strip to view a minimum, average, and maximum relevance score for the keyword among your competitors and your relevance to the keyword as well.
1. Recommendation words — words suggested for your Title if you see a Not included mark under the Status column. We display words’ lemmas in recommended words, but you can use these words in any form tailored to your text intent. 2. LSI Rank — word’s importance for Title on a scale from 0 to 100%. It’s calculated as a ratio of the recommended word occurrences to occurrences of other words from the "bag of words” we collected from Titles of competitor's URLs. 3. Chance — the percentage of competitors from the analyzed group that has the word in the title. 4. Status — the column may have three values. Included - the word is present in the Title on the landing page. Not included - the page doesn’t have the word in its Title. Overspam — the word is used too many times in Title compared to other pages from the analyzed group; it’s worth removing some excessive word occurrences. If you didn’t specify the target URL, we’ll show the usage of the word’s lemma, in Title competitors’ pages in the percentage ratio of the overall number of unique words from their Titles - this feature will be useful for content marketers and copywriters.
What can you find in Body text block?
Data of the Body can be obtained only if URL has been specified in the cluster. Then the report will contain the Body text of the analyzed page and the number of words in it. You can check the minimum, maximum and average number of words in Body. These metrics are derived from an analysis of the respective areas of competitors' pages.
API
What are the credits for API?
There are 2 types of API credits at Serpstat: the number of requests per second and the number of rows you get with.
Requests per second is the number of simultaneous API threads per second. Rows are the number of results in the returned response to the request.
Still have questions? Contact the tech support chat.
How are credits for API methods spent?
The number of charged credits per request is 1 per row (the method removes as many limits as you get rows in the API response). An example of a method response in theAPI Help.
Is it possible to filter or sort data in API reports?
Filters and sorting are available for API reports. Taking into account filters and sorting during export allow: reduce file size, saveexportcredits, get onlythe necessary dataat the output. To get more detailed information, read this article or follow this link to read the instruction for API!
Site audit
How can I use robots.txt settings?
The page is closed to scanning or a specific user-agent in robots.txt settings.
1. Allow scanning for all crawlers: User-agent: * Allow: /
2. Disable scanning for all but the Serpstat robot: User-agent: * Disallow: / User-agent: Serpstatbot Allow: /
2.1 Select Serpstatbot as user-agent in the Audit settings.
3. Run an Audit without robots.txt.
The number of pages changes from crawl to crawl for the same website OR the number of crawled pages is different from the results of site: search engine operator. What should I do?
Every website is like a live organism, and all live organisms are permanently changing. They grow, become older and disappear at some point of time. Keeping this metaphor in mind, let's move to the technical part.
These are the reasons of page number changes that are not related to Serpstat audit or any other auditing tool:
the number of the pages on your website changed (increased or decreased) since the last crawl;
your website had some technical issues during the crawling;
your website is not ready for increased load;
you use a kind of anti-DDoS protection mechanism that prohibits crawling;
some pages do not have incoming links from the other pages of your website, so there is no way for the crawler to get there;
there are some non-existent pages that are not yet dropped from the search results of search engines.
What you can do here is try one of these:
1. If you want exactly the same pages to be crawled every time, run the audit in “Page list” or “Sitemap” mode in Audit settings > Credits and speed > Scanning type. This will give you the maximum control over what should be crawled and what should not. But be sure to check that the pages in the list or in the sitemap stay the same.
2. If you want exactly the same number of crawled pages independent of what pages are crawled, set the number of pages to crawl in Audit settings > Credits and speed > Pages to scan.
3. Disable “Automatic speed control” and set the audit speed to the minimum in Audit settings > Credits and speed > Scanning speed. This will reduce the load and might help to get rid of 50X errors.
4. Explore the result of the site: search operator to understand what pages are indexed by the search engine.
What to do if the Audit report has meta tags issues but the site does not?
Due to the low fault tolerance the server cannot handle the loading while scanning and gives the wrong HTML code for some pages.
1. Run an Audit for the pages on which false errors were detected.
1a. If after scanning the list of pages, errors in the report are not found — we recommend upgrading the site's fault tolerance
1b. If after scanning the list of pages, the report still shows meta tags absence — contact our support group.
Why the SDO score has changed dramatically since the last scan?
This can be due to the fact that the Audit was completed by scanning a different number of pages. SDO score depends on the number of scanned pages. The more pages we scan the more issues we can find. The more issues we find the less SDO would be.
1. Determine why a different number of pages are being scanned. 2. Scan again.
Why there are markup errors in the Audit report, but the markup on the site is configured?
We check for the presence of certain attributes, if at least one attribute from the list is not affixed — this will be flagged as an absence of markup.
1. schema.org - itemscope - itemprop - itemtype More information here.
2. Twitter Card - twitter:card More information here.
3. Open Graph - meta property="og:title" - meta property="og:type" - meta property="og:url" - meta property="og:image"
If the structured data of the site is written as JavaScript scripts, then you need to enable the "Scan pages for JavaScript" option so that the Audit will check them:
What are the data storage conditions for Audit projects?
The storage period for detailed project data is limited to a period of 2 months to 100 months, depending on your current pricing plan: - Individual — 2 months - Team — 10 months - Agency — 100 months * Storage periods for customized plans are the same as for the original plans.
When 2-100 months have passed, detailed information (types of issues, URL where issues were found) is deleted. Only SDO and the number of issues is saved in Overview report.
If you don't use detailed audit information older than the storage period, you do not need to do anything.
If you want to keep detailed results of the audit more than the storage period, then: - export them in the interface or using the API; - upgrade your pricing plan to extend the storage period.
Still have questions? Contact the tech support chat.
Why do I get errors in the Audit report which have already been fixed after pre-scanning the site?
If you use caching on a server to improve the work of a site, you need to clear the cache on the website before starting a new audit in Serpstat.
Otherwise, our robot may get an outdated, cached page with errors when re-scanning. Also, you can specify individual components for caching in the settings, or exclude unnecessary ones to automate the process.
Read more about caching on the server in the article.
Can I analyze a website if it is on the JavaScript framework?
Websites on JS frameworks do not contain HTML markup of the page before the browser executes their code. If you want Site Audit to scan site content created with JavaScript, check the respective option in the URLs section:
With this type of scanning, you spend 10 credits per page.
What to do if Serpstat IPs are banned on the server side of the user?
Due to too many requests from the Audit, the user’s server considered this an attack and banned the IP addresses.
Your server might block the requests from Serpstat because of multiple requests. This is a common mechanism to prevent some malicious activity like DDoS attacks. There are two ways to handle this.
1. Reduce the scanning speed in the Audit settings.
2. Add Serpstat IP addresses to the whitelist. 2.1. You can find the complete list of IP addresses here. 2.2. Contact your webmaster or hosting provider to add the IP to the whitelist. 2.3. Use the instructions for adding IP addresses to whitelists from popular cloud hosting:
What to do if the main page contains tags "noindex", “nofollow”?
1. The main page is prevented from being indexed by the noindex tag. Such pages are also not indexed by search engines, and therefore are not crawled by the Audit crawler. 2. The main page is prevented from being followed by the nofollow tag. According to this tag, the Audit crawler does not follow it and, accordingly, does not scan it.
The robot specified in the settings of the Audit project is banned. 1. Change the User-agent in the Audit settings. 2. Check if scanning by robots is allowed in the site settings.
What is Basic authorization?
The site requires basic authentication (server response code 401).
Enter the login and password for the site with restricted access in the Audit settings
What to do if website has redirect from the host page?
When you go to the host page, a redirect to another domain occurs.
Run an Audit on a domain redirected from the host page.
What to do if server response body does not contain HTML (with a 200 OK response)?
When requesting the host page the server responds with 200 OK code, but the server response body does not contain HTML.
Contact the webmaster to resolve the problem. When requesting the host page, the server must give a 200 OK response and contain the HTML page of the site in the response body.
What to do if the home page of a multi-page site does not contain links?
An audit ends on the host page if it does not contain links to other pages. This most often happens if the user's site is a SPA. 1. If you have a multi-page website, make sure that the source code of the host page contains links to other pages of the site. 2. If you have an SPA site, usethe recommendations to optimize it.
Rank tracker
What is the advantage of the Rank tracker tool and what tasks will it help to solve?
Rank tracker allows you to track the SERP positions of your sites at any time, either manually or by scheduling automatic daily, weekly or monthly updates. Here’s an article on our blog about 10 problems that Rank tracker can help you solve.
What to do if I need an urgent check out of the schedule. How to start monitoring right now?
Manual update will help you update the key phrases you need at any time.
1. Go to the Keywords report. 2. Select the regions for which you want to withdraw positions. 3. Select the required keywords using the checkbox on the left (you can select all or several). 4. Click Update Positions.
Still have questions? Contact the tech support chat.
How can I track positions for the domain keywords?
Serpstat Rank Tracker tool allows you to get data of your site's positions - this way you can independently add the keywords you need to the project and get a fresh report every day.
3. Then you have 2 options. You can manually enter the desired URLs opposite the keys. Or select all words with this tag and bind URLs through Operations:
Why is there no snippet type for PPC regions?
The tool fetches snippets only in organic search.
Still have questions? Contact the tech support chat.
Why do I need to assign URLs to keywords in Rank tracker? What is Expected URL / URL in SERP?
You can add an Expected URL and check which URL is displayed in the search results, and whether the expected coincides with the URL in SERP. This will help determine which of the URLs appears in the best position in reality. In the URLs report, you can check whether the expected one matches the one that really ranks in the search results by keyword. In the settings you can add the expected URL:
Here is the URLs report:
How many competitors can I add into the project? Will it charge extra credits?
You can add competitors without quantity restrictions. It won't spend extra credits; if these domains are found in the search results, the tool will save their data. You can add competitors in the results in Settings / General.
What are Site mirrors?
A site mirror is a full or partial copy of the content of a site's content.
This feature is useful if: - the project was created long ago, but the website moved to another domain, and you don't want to lose historical data; - you have two sites on different domains, but you use the same keywords to track positions. The first domain is a mirror of another and, in fact, leads to the same site, but there may be links to one or the other.
Still have questions? Contact the tech support chat.
How long after loading keywords will the first check of positions begin?
Checking begins on the same day when you created the project, selected the regions and loaded the keywords into it. All projects are checked at 00:00, according to the time zone that was selected the settings. For example, the project was created on Wednesday, but you scheduled the checks only for Sundays. For the first time, Rank Tracker will check positions on Wednesday, and then they will be monitored every Sunday on a schedule. Also, if you add new keys to an existing project, the list of these keywords will be checked through on the day of adding.
What is the Snippet type report?
This report displays the snippet icons that were found in the organic Google search for the keyword. If you select multiple dates on the calendar, the tool shows the presence of snippets for the last position tracking. Gray icon: the snippet was fixed by a keyword with a page of another domain. Blue icon: the snippet was fixed by a keyword with a page for the analyzed domain.
Data about snippets depends not only on the project domain, but also on which domain is currently selected in the report.
If there are more than 4 snippets in the search results for a keyword, they will be hidden in the dropdown. The last icon displays the number of hidden special elements. By clicking on this icon, you will see a dropdown with hidden elements that did not fit into the main report. The icons are arranged in the same order for convenience. By hovering the mouse over the icon, you can see the tooltips with the snippet name and check if the monitored domain has been noticed.
What are Suggested keywords?
After the first 2 settings are completed, you will proceed to add keywords. In suggested keywords you can select the search base and country, after which you will be offered a list of 1000 phrases with the highest frequency, relevant to the domain and search engine / country. Additionally, near each phrase you can check its frequency, position and number of results are indicated on it in the selected post base. The tool takes this data from the Website analysis module.
How can I use positions dynamics /snippets/ storm?
1. Positions dynamics. On the graph, you can trace the entire history of the domain's transfer in search results.
2. Snippets. Snippets for the tracked domain in SERP with the highest position. The color shows the change of the snippet. Title, URL, Description are displayed in the snippet.
3. Keyword Storm. The value of the storm in % shows how much the search engine results for a given keyword have changed in a selected search region. The dynamics are shown next to the previous value. If the project had only one check, then the block with the storm is not displayed. The value can range from 0% to 100%. 0% - no domain has changed its position; 0−40% - normal change in position; 40% −80% - serious changes are occurring in the ranking algorithm. You need to check the storm for other keywords. 100% - none of the domains remained at their previous position.
Most likely, there was some kind of update in the search engine. It is necessary to monitor the news.
Why is the domain position in the Rank tracker report for today different from the actual issue (checking in the afternoon)?
Since the tool starts tracking positions at 00:00, according to the selected time zone, the positions will be displayed in the report for the night time period. If you check the position during the day, then it will be slightly different.
Also, in our article you can find out some other reasons of the different positions.
How to filter in Keywords report?
1. Filter by tag. After sorting, all the data in the report will be built relative to the selected group of phrases using tags.
2. Filter by region. If many regions have been added to the project, it is possible to check the domain positions for each of them separately
3. Filter by date. In the report, you can view the entire history of the position, starting from the date of its creation.
4. Dropdown with competitors. If you added competitors to the project in the search results and want to track their position by the added keywords, you can select them from the dropdown in the Keywords / Positions report.
Where is the SERP History in the new Rank tracker version?
We made the new version of Rank tracker more concise and moved the SERP History report to the Keywords tab.
How can I turn the Positions tracking on/off?
If you need to pause the monitoring, the switch allows you to do this. In this case, the project will not be queued for verification until you manually enable tracking again.
4. Region. The list of regions is displayed after selecting a country and depending on it. The region field is available only to Google and is not required. The peculiarity of Google is that we can check the delivery of search region settings at different levels. Those. Both at the level of the country, region, and at the city level.
5. City. The list of cities become available after selecting a region in the previous field (optional).
6. Language. The list of languages becomes available after selecting a country. The language is automatically set depending on the selected country as the official language or the most popular language, if several are used in the country. If there is no default language, then we put English.
According to the schedule, the rank tracking project is scanned once a month, but I need to check my site’s rankings urgently. How can I see my site’s rankings right now?
If you need an urgent update, you can check the necessary words manually. Just go to the project Keywords report, select the necessary keywords (you can select all or a couple of keywords from the project) and click Update positions.
Why do I see data for one day in the History if the check was regular?
This happens if you view the data for a single day only. Choose standard intervals or enter the dates for which you want to see the results of the checks manually.
How to track domain positions for a specific time interval?
You can check the domain positions dynamics in the Keywords/ History report.
Select a time period in the calendar and you will see a graph of changes in the domain’s positions for all keywords.
If you need to check the dynamics of positions for only one keyword, then go to the report "Keywords / Positions / SERP". A new tab will open a report of the domain positions for the selected keyword.
How often is volume updated in the Rank Tracker tool?
Keyword volume in the Rank Tracker tool is updated once a month.
Why does rank tracking tool show different positions from what I see in SERP?
There are several reasons why you see different positions in SERP and Rank Tracker.
Private Results. Search engines create personalized SERPs based on your search and browser history.
Search Filters. For example, your search parameters may be set to show only results from the last 24 hours.
Typos. Even slight differences in spelling or word order may cause the difference in positions.
Search Engine Updates. Search engines update SERPs constantly and sometimes the time of the update for your target keyword is different for rank tracker and search engine.
Search Region. Looking up the same queries in different areas will give different results, Make sure that you’re checking SERPs from the same area that you set in your Rank Tracker.
You can read more about the reasons in our article.
Backlink analysis
How often Serpstat update website data?
Serpstat crawlers work 24/7 and a full database update takes 70 days.
The frequency of updating data for a particular site depends on its prevalence on the Internet. The more links to it from different domains, the more often the data will be updated on it.
How can I see a specific anchor for each link or a list of links with the required anchor?
You can use the Backlink anchors report. The report table displays a list of unique anchor links to the analyzed site.
Why are there fewer / more referring pages / domains in the new Serpstat index?
The new Serpstat index is, in most cases, more relevant. Some of the domains / pages that were shown earlier could have become outdated and vice versa - the old index might not have all the relevant information.
Still have questions? Contact the tech support chat.
Does the index include data that is not indexed?
Our crawlers follow the basic rules for indexing data, first of all, the rules for robots described in the site's robots.txt. Individual blocks, closed with noindex tags, can be ignored in some cases. Detailed FAQ on serpstat bot - https://serpstatbot.com/
In the summary report, dynamics (arrow and number) are sometimes shown next to the values at the top of the report. For what period is this data shown?
Total changes in the last 7 days
Why my site has existed for a long time, but there is no data on outbound links for it or this data is small / it does not correspond to reality?
Most likely, the website hosting has banned our Serpstat bot and bot cannot scan it. In order to unban it, you need to add the IP addresses of the Serpstat bot crawlers to the list of exceptions. Please contact our support for assistance in this matter.
Where does Serpstat get the link data?
We have our own base of links and as our crawler finds a new link mass, we immediately refresh the data in the system.
By what principle do you pull up anchor data into the Summary report?
The table "Anchors" displays TOP values sorted by the number of matches in incoming links in descending order.
If you are interested in how to analyze and work with anchors read our article.
What tasks will help to close the Serpstat's backlink tool?
Serpstat's backlink analysis tool is designed to analyze links to the site of other sites and their pages. With the module, you can analyze the current link mass of the site and competitors, track new and lost links, check the anchors of incoming links, and track sites unwanted for donors.
For more details on what tasks can be solved using this module, read our article.
Is it possible to analyze info about backlinks for the list of domains at once?
You can get results for a list of domains in our Batch analysis tool.
Serpstat Domain Rank is an indicator of domain authority on a scale from 0 to 100. The higher this indicator, the more authoritative the domain is. It depends on the number of sites linking to the analyzed domain and the number of sites linking to these referring sites. Thus, all sites in the index connected with the analyzed domain are taken into account.
Why doesn't the data match on quantity fot the domains / links in the summary report and other reports in the backlinks tool ?
The data in each report is counted differently and therefore may vary slightly. There is a main index (database), it is huge and it takes too long to receive some queries from it. To speed up this process, we have made special extracts with summary data on sites, which are updated approximately once a week. The data for the summary report is mainly taken from these small tables, and the data for the reports is from the index itself, so the total amount on the dashboard and the corresponding report may not match. More relevant data is found in detailed reports.
What does link "without anchor" mean in Serpstat Backlinks module?
- the text is equal to an empty line). It can be a text link that is only visible in the code, an image, a button"}" data-sheets-userformat="{"2":899,"3":{"1":0},"4":[null,2,16777215],"10":1,"11":4,"12":0}">We do not use such a concept. We have the concept of "Anchor without text": this is a link that does not have an anchor ( - the text is equal to an empty line). It can be a text link that is only visible in the code, an image, a button
What is the period used when displaying charts in the reports "Active backlinks", "Lost backlinks", "External links"?
We display charts in all detailed reports for the year, the update step is a week (from Monday to Monday). In some cases the difference may be a little bigger: for example, if the crawlers were stopped to update. You can navigate by dates on the horizontal axis of the graphs.
How does Serpstat detect "malicious sites"?
When analyzing sites, crawlers use a verification algorithm similar to the algorithms in Google Chrome. Sites that Google Chrome does not recommend navigating to are considered malicious, and blocks the transition when trying, with a notification. Besides, Serpstat cooperates with the German Institute of Information Security, which monitors sites that have been involved in violations of the law.
Why isn't data displayed for large domains like facebook.com and will it be there in the future?
There are a small number of sites (about 1500), the data on which is very resource-intensive to calculate. For such sites, we use caching and update the data about once a week. Now caching is disabled: we are injecting global updates into the crawler and index. After the completion of the work, we will carry out several optimization iterations to make everything work faster, after which we will reconfigure and re-enable caching - then the data for these large sites will be available.
Batch analysis
How are credits charged in Domain batch analysis?
Number of domains * number of metrics = numbers of credits. 1 metric = 1 credit Metrics for analysis are parameters chosen in settings, such as keywords, visibility, Domain rank, ads, backlinks, etc. Example: 1 domain * 20 metrics for analysis (9 metrics for analytics + 11 metrics for links) * 1 base = 20 credits. Regions are not considered for Links analysis. Analysis of 2 bases = 40 credits: 11 credits for link analysis + 9 credits for domain analysis * 2 bases. Check the credits for Domain batch analysis in your account. Please note: credits for Keywords batch analysis, Domains batch analysis, Clustering, Text analysis, and AI content tools are shared.
How often the domain data updates?
The project is updated on manual update. For that, click on the button as in the screenshot:
Why can't I see data for some domains?
Collecting data from a domain list takes time, especially if there are many domains in the list. In this case, you do not need to keep the report open. Go to the report approximately in 30 minutes. If the list is very large (1000+ domains) — in a couple of hours.
Features launch stages
What features launch stages does Serpstat have?
Early access
We limit early access features to a closed group of testers. Participation is by invitation only. These features may be unstable, change in a backward-incompatible ways and are not guaranteed to be released. We do not provide technical support obligations for these features and do not cover them by credits policy.
Alpha
We may change alphas in backward-incompatible ways or shut down without any notice. They work as is with no technical support obligations. We do not cover them by credits policy and explicitly mark these features as alpha in the interface. You can use them at your own risk. Alphas are generally suitable for testing purposes.
Beta
Betas are ready for broad customer use, but are not necessarily feature-complete. We often publicly announce betas, mark them as “Beta” in interface and cover by initial credits policy which might be changed in the future.
General availability
General availability features are open to all customers and covered by the stable credits policy.
Deprecated
We schedule deprecated features to be shut down and removed. We explicitly mark these features as deprecated in the interface.
Export
How does export row restricts work?
You can download reports with a fixed number of rows every day according to a pricing plan.
Here are a few useful tips: - Specify more rows than are available to view in the interface and get more data when doing a partial export in Search Analysis. All requested data within the export credits will be exported.
For example, the interface only shows 2,000 rows, and you have 50,000 rows available for export. To export more than 2,000 results, specify the desired number of rows when exporting. However, remember about your monthly export limit.
- The specified columns, sorting, filtering, and interface language apply to the exported data when exporting Search Analysis reports. In other modules, you cannot specify columns for export.
- Some columns in the service contain several values at once (keyword, toponym, special element). When exporting data, the data is divided into three different columns.

If you do not have a plan in Serpstat, the export function is not available to you. If you are the owner of any of the paid plans, please write to us via anonline chat or send an email with questions to support@serpstat.com. We will help you!
